Andrew Ward

Andrew is a partner in the Competition and European Union Law practice at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.

He specialises in merger control and other regulatory clearances associated with transactions (including FDI and FSR) in Spain and worldwide and has significant experience in relation to EU, Spanish and international antitrust investigations, risk management (including the design and implementation of compliance programs and training) and state aid and other European Union law issues.

A graduate in Law from the University of Cambridge, he is a Barrister of England & Wales since 1997, between 1998 and 2002 he worked as an associate in the Brussels office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, and he is qualified to practice as a lawyer in Spain since 2002.

Andrew is currently Officer of the Antitrust Section of the International Bar Association and an Ambassador and member of the International Committee of the American Bar Association.

Andrew is recognised as Band 1 by the prestigious legal directory Chambers & Partners, as a “Hall of Fame” in Legal 500, and as a “Global Elite Thought Leader” in Who’s Who Legal for Competition rankings.

Gómez-Acebo & Pombo advises PAI Partners on the sale of Grupo Uvesco (BM Supermercados and Super Amara), 2025 – Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has advised PAI Partners on the sale of Grupo Uvesco (BM Supermercados and Super Amara) to a consortium of Basque investors led by its CEO (Angel Jareño) and also formed by Stellum Capital, Inveready and Indar (Kutxabank), amongst others. GA_P advises Indra on the sale of its BPO business to Teknei, 2025 – Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has advised Indra on the sale of its Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) business to the Basque technology company Teknei for €96.6 million. The transaction comprises Indra’s business services outsourcing unit in Spain, Portugal, Italy and several Latin American countries, including Peru, Colombia, Chile and Mexico.

GA_P advises Oakley Capital on the acquisition of a majority stake in Paraty Tech, 2025 – Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has advised Oakley Capital, through its vehicle Oakley Capital Fund VI, on the acquisition of a majority stake in Paraty Tech, a company specialising in hotel booking software, with a presence not only in the Iberian Peninsula but also in Latin America and the USA.

GA_P advises Making Science on the sale of its cloud and cybersecurity business unit to Lutech, 2025 – Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has advised the Making Science group, whose parent company is listed on BME Growth and currently has more than 1,200 employees and a technological presence and development in 15 markets, on the sale of two Spanish companies that make up its cloud and cybersecurity business unit in Spain to Lutech, a leading Italian group in digital services and artificial intelligence.

GA_P advises Indra Sistemas on the acquisition of Hispasat for €725m, 2025 – Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has advised Indra Sistemas in the negotiation and execution of an agreement with Redeia Corporación for the acquisition of 89.68% of the share capital of Hispasat, a satellite operator and service provider, for ¤725,000 million.
