Álvaro Fernández

Álvaro is counsel in the Tax practice at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.

He specialises in domestic and international taxation and has extensive experience advising multinational groups, financial institutions, sovereign wealth funds and private equity firms on complex investment, divestment and restructuring transactions.

He has a strong track record in the tax structuring of corporate and financial transactions, including acquisitions, financing, repatriation of funds and corporate reorganisations, as well as in the negotiation and review of transaction documents. He also regularly advises on due diligence processes, tax audit proceedings and tax litigation before administrative bodies and the courts.

He holds a degree in Law from the European University of Madrid and has completed specialised studies in accounting and taxation, as well as preparation for the competitive examinations for the Senior Corps of State Tax Inspectors.

Álvaro has been recognised by the international legal directory Best Lawyers as One to Watch in Tax for several consecutive years and regularly speaks at specialist tax forums. He is also the author of various publications on international taxation, M&A transactions and tax litigation.
